How Long Does It Take For Dysport To Kick In – Dysport® is a non-surgical facial injection that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles caused by muscle activity. It does this to relax the muscle movement. Untreated, lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement can deepen and remain present even when the face is relaxed, often as a result of repeated facial expressions such as smiling and squinting.
Dysport is a neuromodulator made from purified botulinum toxin A, which means it safely alters the transmission of nerve impulses in the muscles that cause wrinkles, so that wrinkles and skin lines are softened.

Dysport was approved by the FDA in 2009. This has the advantage of providing more products “spread” on the treated muscles. That’s why it’s great for places like the glabella (between the eyes) and crow’s feet.

At the New Orleans Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, both dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick qualified Dysport injectors. His experience allows him to examine your face and determine which muscles are causing the wrinkles. Then they can plan the best places for your injections so that you will naturally look younger and more refreshed. Dysport is often called the “lunchtime treatment” because it can be done quickly with no downtime.
Botox® and Xeomin® are other brand names of neuromodulators developed by Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick is used. Often, Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick treat patients with more than one brand of neuromodulator to produce optimal results.
Dysport has been used safely and is FDA approved for cosmetic treatment between the eyes (glabella). Injections in other areas of the face and neck are considered “off-label”, but make sure that dr. Velargo and Hendrick are also qualified injectors in these areas.
Dysport is a great product for patients who have developed immunity or are unresponsive to Botox treatment.

Patients often ask about the “Chemical Eyebrow Lifting”. Dr. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled in this technique, which relaxes the depressor muscles of the brow, giving the brow approximately 5-7mm of natural light from the unopposed pull of the brow lifter muscle. It is possible; however, they may recommend a surgical eyebrow or forehead lift if the desired results cannot be achieved with Dysport alone.
Dysport can also be used to treat muscle hyperactivity in the lower face and neck in selected patients. For example, it can be used to help clean up the lines around the mouth, round the corners of the mouth and even reduce the appearance of neck bands.
For lines and wrinkles caused by volume loss rather than muscle activity, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm®, Juvéderm Voluma®, Restylane®, Perlane®, Belotero® or Radiesse® are recommended. Dr. Velargo and Hendrick can suggest the use of both types of injectables to reduce the different types of wrinkles.
A small needle is used to inject Dysport into the designated areas. It causes a small pain that is well tolerated, and the injections themselves take no more than a few minutes. Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick believe in fresh compressed anesthesia, as well as acupressure techniques to make the injections as comfortable as possible.
Dysport & Botox
If you wish, we will be happy to apply a topical numbing cream before your injections, although this is rarely necessary with Dysport injections. If you would like the numbing cream, we ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that it can take effect prior to the procedure. We have a very comfortable and relaxing “Quiet Room” in the clinic for your enjoyment.
After your injections you can go home or relax in the Quiet Room for as long as you like.
You can continue most of your activities, including returning to work, after leaving our office, but you may experience minor tenderness and bruising at some injection sites. It will be resolved within a few hours or days. If there is a bruise, apply Arnica Montana topically to speed the resorption of any bruise.
We ask you to remain upright for approximately 6 hours after the injections. It is also recommended not to participate in strenuous activities for 12 hours. Further instructions will be given after your treatment.

Dysport® is an injectable treatment used to help smooth the appearance of lash lines and crow’s feet without changing the appearance or movement of the rest of the face. With the Dysport® treatment, patients can frown, laugh and smile, while enjoying a smoother, plumper complexion. Among the most widely used FDA-approved injectables, Dysport® treats moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows by reducing muscle activity caused by repetitive movements and muscle contractions, leaving movement even on the surface of the skin. Brow lines and crow’s feet can result in a tired and aged appearance, but with Dysport®, patients can regain natural firmness in these areas for up to 5 months after treatment.

Dysport® temporarily treats moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. This treatment requires an injection of Dysport® applied to five points on the face – an injection at points between and above the eyebrows blocks the nerve signal to the muscles under the skin. Dysport® injection sites include two points above each eyebrow and one point in the middle of the eyebrows, ultimately reducing muscle activity and preventing muscle contractions in the treated areas.
Dysport® targets the affected muscle groups and frees the rest of the face from natural movements – it allows patients to control their gaze without their gaze controlling them. Dysport® and Dysport® crow’s feet facial injections offer fast-acting, long-lasting, natural-looking results, so patients can start enjoying noticeable improvements in their wrinkles and fine lines immediately after treatment and continue to reap the benefits months later.
